Josep Canals Molina
Secretary General of MedCities since June 2019. He is an ecologist with long-standing expertise on urban issues. Graduated in biology, he holds a postgraduate degree in land and landscape management and a master's degree in territorial and urban studies.
Elected Mayor of Corbera de Llobregat (municipality of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB)) from 2009 to 2011 and metropolitan councillor of the AMB 2007-2009.
Professionally, he has been advisor on environmental and urbanistic policies of the AMB and the Parliament of Catalonia between 2003 and 2007. Advisor on public space and waste management of the Mayor of Bogota 2012-2015 and advisor on public space of the Sabadell City Council (Catalonia) 2017-2019. He is an independent advisor of the Inter-American Development Bank, the Sustainability UNESCO Chair and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Research of the German government.
Oriol has over 10 years' experience in international projects and initiatives related to urban development in the Mediterranean and is the author of several publications on the theme. He has an Msc in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and further developed his studies at the University of Damascus. He is a member of the Territorial Resilience to Climate Change Hub of the Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI) and the Water Experts Group of the Union for the Mediterranean. He is proficient in Catalan, Spanish, English and French and has an advanced level of Italian and Arabic.
Konstantia has over ten years' experience working in international cooperation and EU territorial cooperation project management, focusing on urban and territorial sustainable development. She holds an MA in Post War Recovery and Development Studies and an MA in International Relations. She has worked for local authorities and NGOs, and has managed multi-partner projects targeting countries around the Mediterranean.
Geographer. MA in Regional Planning and MA in Mediterranean Investment and Integration. Since 2007, she has worked as a technician, consultant, researcher and teacher in urban management and planning, in the fields of Urban Mobility and Sustainable Tourism. She has worked for local administrations, designing and implementing urban master plans and sectoral strategies.
A lawyer by education, Carolina has over 20 years' experience in managing projects in the field of coastal management, planning and policy-development. She was previously project coordinator at the Coastal & Marine Union in the Netherlands and in 2003 moved to Barcelona to open its regional office for the Mediterranean. Soon after she began cooperating with MedCities and joined the team in 2017 as a Project Officer, working mainly on the Association's activities in the eastern Mediterranean. Her main fields of interest relate to sustainable socio-economic development and include participatory processes, adaptation to climate change, waste reduction and management and marine litter.
MA in International Cooperation and Development Studies (Université Libre de Bruxelles) and BA in Political Science. Before joining Medcities, she worked as project officer for PLATFORMA, European network of cities and regions, managing EU funds and promoting city links in the Mediterranean region. She did a traineeship in Tunis back in 2015 and has worked for civil society organisations in the field of human sustainable development.
Clara holds an M.Sc. in Public Policy and Human Development from the United Nations University in Maastricht and a BA in Political Science. Before joining MedCities, she worked for two years as a Research Officer in the migration and development department of the University. She has provided assistance to several EU-funded projects for institutions such as DG HOME, DG DEVCO, ICMPD and GIZ, both working on research and on project management. Among other projects, she's now suporting the design and implementation of the City Strategy of Tunis.
An experienced Journalist with a degree in Mediterranean Internacional Relations. She has worked in the media (TV, radio and communication agencies) and in different communication projects, both in private and public sector. She has studied and worked in international environments and she has developed communication plans and actions for other NGOs.
Dario is a technician in administration and finance and has worked for international organizations throughout his professional career. He has experience in taxation, law and accounting in international trade and, since joining MedCities, he has specialised in the management and the organisation of other non-profit organisations.
