New MedCities projects approved by Interreg Med programme
On 27th September the Interreg Med Programme launched the results of the first call for projects, both modular and horizontal. Two of the projects in which MedCities will be participating as partner, have been approved by the Steering Committee of the programme. Moreover, the project MEDNICE and BLEUTOURMED, in which MedCities General Secretariat participates as associate partner have also been approved.
In the following three years, MedCities will be working for the PANACeA and GO-SUMP projects. PANACeA - Streamlining Efforts Networking and Management in Mediterranean Protected Areas for Enhanced Capital and Conservation of Natural Heritage, is a project that will be strengthening the networking and management of protected areas in the Med. Go-SUMP - Improving Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans & Measures in the Med- is a project focused on increasing the visibility and impact of projects that promote sustainable urban mobility.
The aim of the horizontal projects, co-financed 85% through the program Interreg MED, is to capitalise the results of the modular projects in their respective subjects; to promote networking activities among the modular projects stakeholders and to undertake communication and dissemination activities of their results.
MedCities, through the AMB which holds the General Secretariat, will be active in the networking and capitalisation activities of both projects, in order to build an active community of Mediterranean actors from different fields (research, political...). For that reason, it counts with a budget of 207.000€ for PANACeA and 170.000€ for GO-SUMP.
The projects target the north Mediterranean region, but the role of MedCities is to involve in the project activities as many of its members as possible, and to capitalise the results of the modular projects towards the entire Mediterranean region in order to promote policy coherence and integration. The launching of both projects will be done in Nice, on the 8th and 9th November.
