Zarqa Municipality towards the increase of waste management efficiency
MedCities is supporting the municipality of Zarqa in their effort towards the adoption of actions to increase waste management efficiency by assessing the suitability of installing a mobile transfer station in the surroundings of the city.
The project, which is funded by the AMB, aims at assessing the suitability of installing a mobile transfer station in the surroundings of the city which collects the waste transported from the city through small waste-collecting trucks. This would increase their waste collection capacity and decrease current greenhouse gas emissions through a decrease of the number of daily travels towards the landfill. The project responds to the Municipality's needs of ensuring the installation of a mobile transfer station in a way that is economically sound, environmentally friendly and that it supposes an upgrade to the citizens daily life. The project also paves the way towards the introduction of future waste-separation practices in the municipality.
Zarqa municipality has a strong commitment to keep increasing their knowledge in environmental management topics, and it is one of MedCities objective to increase municipalities capacities and empowerment. To fulfill both objectives, the project includes a series of capacity-building workshops which will increase the environmental technicians capacity in Zarqa municipality on the performance of future environmental impact studies.
This project will contribute to SDGs 3 (Good health and well being), 11 (sustainable cities and communities), 17 (partnership for the goals)
