EDITORIAL

MedCities commitments for 2017

After the celebration of the General Assembly, MedCities network is prepared to work for the new objectives for 2017. The General Secretariat together with our members have approved an Action Plan that give response to the main challenges of Mediterranean cities. The three strategic axes are related to the definition, support and implementation of projects in the member cities, the sustainability and efficiency of MedCities as an association and a major acknowledgement of MedCities as an international actor representing Mediterranean local authorities. During the discussions, members stressed the need to strengthen the decentralised cooperation in the Mediterranean. Local authorities are well aware of their central role in social cohesion and local development, but also in ensuring greater stability in the region. In that sense, MedCities stressed its commitment with Libyan cities and local communities, the support to refugee hosting communities and the improvement of the work towards achieving gender balance in our actions.
